In March of 2015, the UWindsor cohort observed classes at Southwest University. Guest speakers were invited by the Reciprocal Learning Program to deliver presentations to the cohort. A few of the guest speakers like Dr. Ling Li talked about Education in China from 1949-2016. Professor Jiali Yao gave a topic about Ethnic Minority Education of Southwestern China.
In April of 2015, the UWindsor (UWin) cohort were able to experience Chinese culture at Southwest University. Professor Guanshan Qi taught the cohort about the history and technique behind the art of calligraphy. The UWin teacher candidates wrote calligraphy characters on the fans that they made. They also learned martial arts from Professor Ming Deng, which enriched their physical health knowledge.
In April of 2015, the UWindsor cohort visited Southwest University (SWU) and attended seminars guided by Dr. Shijing Xu. Dr. Xu and Dr. Shijian Chen delivered a speech to give a warm welcome to the teacher candidates. Dr. Yibing Liu also welcomed the group and provided tips for success during their stay. On behalf of the cohort, Josh gave a speech to express their gratitude to SWU.
In April of 2015, the UWindsor cohort presented workshops to the students of SWU. Pam, Erika and Mary talked about life in Canada. Jacqueline, Ruxandra, Jacklyn and Ayham discussed about Canadian myths. Nausheen, Ayla and Lyndsay presented about social media in the classroom. Josh, Ken and Jasmin created a drum circle and discussed Canadian music.

In March of 2015, the UWindsor teacher candidates were interviewed by Dr. Shijing Xu and Dr. Jonathan Bayley. The questions varied from, “why did you choose to come to China?”. After the interviews, Dr. Xu provided some tips for applying for a Chinese visa through seminars, and had pre-departure preparation.
The UWindsor (UWin) 2015 cohort joined the International Students team for the Southwest University Campus Sports Meet. Josh ran the 1500 metre, and Jacqueline ran the 400 metre. Nevin and David participated in long jump and a group of UWin teacher candidates and SWU buddies jumped in the skipping competition.

In April of 2015, the UWindsor teacher candidates attended a local sports meet to observe its opening ceremonies. Ruxandra, Ken, Erika and Lindsay cheered on the different groups as they entered the stadium to support the Southwest University skipping team as they performed.

In March of 2015, the UWindsor teacher candidates visited the Southwest University Key Stone Laboratory of the Silkworm Genome. The cohort learned about silkworm research as well as the cancer research being conducted in the lab.

Hang Yang, a teacher candidate of Southwest University (SWU)cohort in Fall 2015, and Carl organized a trip for the UWindsor cohort during the Tomb Sweeping national holiday weekend. They visited the Dazu Rock Carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The SWU buddies helped to explain the meanings behind the rock carvings during the tour.
In May of 2015, the UWindsor cohort observed the Junior and Senior High school classes at Southwest University (SWU). Shichang Yang gave a lesson about the vision of the future, Jacqueline presented a topic about Canadian High Schools, and Ruxi taught about designing houses.
In August in 2015, CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) interviewed Dr. Shijing Xu (Reciprocal Learning Program Coordinator) about the Reciprocal Learning Program (RLP) and the collaboration between China and Canada. David, Ruxi and Lilly were interviewed by the CBC to talk about their feelings as a participant in the program. Ayham received an interview through Skype to talk about his experience in China.

The University of Windsor’s Daily News covered a story on the Reciprocal Learning Program conducted by Dr. Shijing Xu in February of 2016. Erika, who is now teaching in Vietnam, joined the interview via Skype to share her experience in China along with Nevin, David and Jacqueline in Windsor.

In May of 2015, the UWindsor cohort gave lessons to Yucai Middle School students in various subject areas. Erica, Pamela, Ayla, Jacklyn, Lindsey, Josh, and Mary had the opportunities to teach different subjects related to their education interests. The teacher candidates were able to teach about Canada. Students in Yucai enjoyed having the classes a lot.

In May of 2015, the UWindsor cohort visited Zeng Jia Yan Primary School. The teacher candidates delivered classes to students in Zeng Jia Yan Primary School. Erica taught the students about Canadian music and students really enjoyed the class.
In November of 2015, the UWindsor (UWin) teacher candidates, accompanied by Dr. Shijing Xu and the professors of Southwest University (SWU), visited Yucai Middle School. They were able to see the student farm, campus, and library of Yucai Middle School. The cohort exchanged their ideas with students from SWU – Roxi, and Erika expressed their ideas in the seminar as well.
In October of 2015, the UWindsor cohort visited Zeng Jia Yan Primary School guided by Dr. Shijing Xu. Zeng Jia Yan Primary School provided a workshop to welcome the teacher candidates. Officials in Consulate General of Canada in Chongqing were invited to this workshop as well, and they provided some tips about living in China o the UWindsor Cohort.
