Departure from Toronto

On the March 17th 2019, 8 pre-service teachers of Reciprocal Learning Program from University of Windsor were ready for the three-month trip to China. Led by the Research Assistant Deng Yuhan, they will first visit Beijing Foreign Language School for two weeks. This visit is assisted by Professor Shijing Xu (University of Windsor) and Professor Luxin Yang (Beijing Foreign Language University) with her graduate assistants. Gaining the support from the local school, the pre-service teachers will get access to enter real classrooms, take part in teaching activities with local teachers and communicate with Chinese students about their study and school life.

On 24th March 2019, Dr. Shijing Xu took 8 pre-service teachers from the University of Windsor and visited Beijing Foreign Studies University. They visited the library and the National Research Center for Foreign Language Education.

On the March 29th 2019, with the assistance of the research team from Beijing Foreign Language University, the 8 pre-service teachers from University of Windsor visited the Primary School affiliated to Agricultural University in Beijing, a sister school of the Reciprocal Learning Program, with Dr. Shijing Xu (University of Windsor) and Yuhan Deng (Research Assistant). Mr. Zhao (principal) and the school teacher welcomed everyone. Mr. Zhao and Ms. Chen (the English teacher) introduced the basica information of the school and showed the classes to the guests.

The pre-service teachers visited the Primary School affiliated to Agricultural University in Beijing with Dr. Shijing Xu. The principal Mr. Zhao and the English teacher Ms. Chen introduced the school and showed the classes to the pre-service teachers.

The pre-service teachers participated the activities with the students. The pre-service had a wonderful day at The Primary School Affiliated to China Agricultural University.

同时,加拿大职前教师也很高兴能参与到同学们的兴趣课中, 尤其是向学校的小书法家 们学习如何写毛笔字。


On the March 17th 2019, 8 pre-service teachers of Reciprocal Learning Program and Yuhan Deng (Research Assistant) from University of Windsor were ready for the three-month trip to China. Their first destination was Beijing. During the weekends, they visited famous spots and historic sites to learn more about Chinese history and culture.

On April 6th, BFSU fellows and the pre-service teachers visited the 798 Art Center and tasted the local food. The pre-service teachers have learned a lot through the Beijing trip.

2019 UW Students Auditing Faculty of Education Courses

The University of Windsor teacher candidates received a warm welcome from the Southwest University (SWU) community upon their arrival in Chongqing in April. During their two-month stay in Chongqing, they attended many wonderful seminars at SWU. For example, the UW teacher candidates attended a seminar conducted by Dr. Yu on traditional Chinese music history. In this seminar, Dr. Yu invited her students to perform two Chinese traditional instruments to help the UW teacher candidates gain a broader understanding of Chinese traditional music history and culture. Other SWU professors also delivered courses on Chinese history and teaching philosophy to the Canadian teacher candidates to deepen their understandings of Chinese education.

UWindsor 2019 Group Teaching at Zeng Jia Yan Primary School

On April 11th 2019, Dr. Shijing Xu and the UWindsor pre-service teachers visited Zeng Jia Yan Primary School and started their school placement there. Zeng Jia Yan’s Principal, Ms. Deng; Curriculum Director, Ms. Yu; and all teachers at Zeng Jia Yan welcomed UWindsor teacher candidates with an open arm. From April 11th to May 30th 2019, the UWindsor teacher candidates conducted their teaching practicums at Zeng Jia Yan under the supervision of various English-language associate teachers. During their placement, the UWindsor teacher candidates also participated in a sister school Skype meeting with Zeng Jia Yan’s Sister School, Prince Edward Public School, in Windsor, Canada.

UWindsor 2019 Group Teaching at Tian Jia Bing Middle School

On April 18th 2019, the University of Windsor RLP/Mitacs 2019 cohort/teacher candidates arrived at Chongqing Tian Jia Bing Middle School to conduct their teaching placement. Tian Jia Bing’s vice principal, Mr. Mo; curriculum director, Mr. Yang; and teachers warmly welcomed all the UWindsor teacher candidates aand gave them a school tour upon their arrival. During their placement, the pre-service teachers had an opportunity to observe classes and participate in in-class activities with the students. They were also invited to deliver workshops introducing elements of Canadian culture, Canadian Geography, music, and First Nations to students at Tian Jia Bing.

UWindsor 2019 Group Teaching at Chongqing Local Kindergartens

On April 19, 2019, Dr. Shijing Xu and eight pre-service teachers from University of Windsor visited Lanhuajun and Ziducheng Kindergartens in Chongqing. The visit was supported by Dr. Liao Zhong, Senior Business Commissioner and Education Commissioner of the Canadian Consulate General in Chongqing; Mr. Yidian Liu and Ms. Yajie Dai, Senior Managers of the kindergartens; and Dr. Xu. The pre-service teachers participated in outdoor activities with children from the kindergartens. They also taught the children how to play a game from called "Duck, Duck, Goose!” The UWindsor pre-service teachers gained a better understanding of the Chinese kindergarten educational system as the result of their kindergarten visit.

2019年4月19日上午,温莎大学许世静教授带领温莎大学的8名参加中加互惠学习项目的职前教师到龙湖蓝湖郡和紫都城幼儿园参观学习。此次幼儿园参观学习是在加拿大驻重庆总领事馆高级商务专员、教育专员廖忠博士,辰星集团高管刘一点先生和戴雅洁女士和许教授的积极促成下实现的。温莎大学职前教师和紫都城幼儿园小朋友一起参加了幼儿园的室外活动,并教小朋友们玩加拿大的儿童游戏“Duck,Duck, Goose”!通过此次学习, 职前教师们对中国的幼儿园教育有了更好的了解。


UWindsor 2019 Group Visiting Chengdu Schools

On May 17th 2019, the UWindsor teacher candidates visited the Experimental Primary School of Sichuan Conservatory of Music (EPSSCM) and the Sichuan Special Education School. At EPSSCM, Ms. Ling Lin, a EPSSCM’s teacher and an RLP program alumni, gave 6 teacher candidates and Dr. Shijing Xu, a thorough school tour. They were welcomed by the principal and a band performance delivered by the EPSSCM children. At EPSSCM, the UWindsor teacher candidates taught a Physical Ed class to Grade 5 students. Teachers at EPSSCM and the UW teacher candidates had an opportunity to exchange about teaching practices with each other. After visiting EPSSCM, the UWindsor teacher candidates visited Sichuan Special Education School to get a better understanding of Chinese special education. At the end of their school visit, the teacher candidates received many gifts made by students.

UWindsor 2019 Group Visiting Maple Leaf School

On May 27th 2019, the UWindsor teacher candidates visited Maple Leaf School in Yongchuan City. Accompanied by Jacklyn, a 2015 RLP alumnus, 7 teacher candidates and Dr. Shijing Xu toured the school grounds. They also had the opportunity to observe Aham, another RLP alumnus’s class during their visit. Maple Leaf principal warmly welcomed everyone and hoped that the UWindsor teacher candidates could teach at Maple Leaf School after their graduation.

UWindsor 2019 Group Visiting Suzhou Schools

During June 9th to 16th, the UWindsor teacher candidates visited many schools in Suzhou. They visited Soochow University and met the Dean, Vice Dean, and Dr. Yining Fu from the Faculty of Education. During their stay, the group of pre-service teachers was reported on both Chinese local and national newspapers of learning the Chinese traditional dance which has been listed as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage when visiting at Cang Lang Experimental Primary School. The teacher candidates also had an opportunity to visit the High School Affiliated to Suzhou University and Yuanqu No. 1 High School and taught the students there.

UWindsor 2019 Group Experiencing Chinese Culture

During their two-month stay in Chongqing, the UW teacher candidates experienced a variety of traditional Chinese cultures through attending many wonderful workshops and classes. Through the Kong Fu workshop, the UW teacher candidates not only learned the movement of Kong Fu but also the spirit of the Chinese traditional culture. Moreover, they learned about the beauty of Chinese characters through Chinese Calligraphy classes.

2019 UWindsor Group Experiencing Tea Picking

On May 23rd 2019, the UW pre-service teachers had a tea picking field trip with Dean Yu and other school teachers from Zeng Jia Yan (ZJY) Primary School to experienced authentic Chinese tea culture. In the evening, the UW pre-service teachers visited the families of ZJY primary School students. They have not only learned the custom of the Dragon Boat Festival but also learned how to make Zong Zi which is a typical food enjoyed during the Dragon Boat festival. In addition to learning from local families, the pre-service teachers also shared Canadian cultures with local families.

五月23日,温莎职前教师和曾家岩学校老师们一起外出采茶,体验中国茶文化。晚上,职前教师参加学校组织的拜访中国学生家庭,体验中国传统家庭文化。职前教师们在中国家庭了解了端午节的习俗,学习了如何包粽子。通过这次活动不仅品尝了地道的重庆菜,还向中国家庭介绍了加拿大的文化,加深了彼此的了解。

On April 14th, 2019, 8 UW teacher candidates were invited to go on a one-day field trip to Dazu Rock Carving Resort with Dr. Wang from Southwest University. All the people were amazed by the sculptures and their history.

Celebrating Children’s Day

On May 31st, 2019, one day before the Children’s Day, Southwest University Kindergarten teachers invited the UW teacher candidates to participate in different activities with the Kindergarten children. It was the 2019 UW cohort’s first time to hear about Children’s Day. They were able to observe how parents interacted with their children by participating in various activities.
